1ST LT. ROBERT F. COFFEY

115TH REGIMENT

1ST BATTALION

COMPANY A

KIA: 8 JUNE 1944

Silver Star citation: Upon landing with his assault section under heavy fire, 1st Lt. Coffey immediately organized his section and proceeded toward the beach exit. As they reached the beach exit, 1st Lieutenant Coffey was hit by a fragment from an exploding shell but carried on courageously in spite of intense pain caused by the wound which later brought on his death. 1st Lt. Coffey's sections in sacrifing his own life in order to accomplish the assigned mission reflects great upon himself and the Military Service.

"I'm just browsing the web site. I have a photo that was sent to me about my uncle who was KIA at Normandy. He was Lieutenant Robert F. Coffey. Was awarded the silver star and purple heart. I would like to know who the officers are in the photo. Hopefully it will help others as well. Any information will be appreciated. Thank you very much. Fred"
